On 25th May 1967 Celtic defeated Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon to become the first British club to win the European Cup. It was a remarkable transformation for a club that had finished eighth in the league just two seasons before.
Yet, even as the legend of the Lisbon Lions was being written, a group of young players was waiting in the wings at Celtic Park, eager to push their way into the first-team and replace the men who had made history.
Some of these youngsters would go on to become legends in their own right, such as Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain and Davie Hay. Others like George Connelly and Vic Davidson wouldn’t fulfill the extraordinary potential displayed in their formative years.
